From Meir, Go up Sandon Road (A520) to Meir Heath. Turn left along Hilderstone Road (B5066) go past the Windmill Pub to Hilderstone. Turn left at the T-junction, then drive along for about one mile and the Bird in Hand pools are on your left, the pub has been demolished. Go through the bottom gate, park inside on the car park. Disabled badge owners may park by the conifers by the main pool but must not drive on the grass and please display their badge, Committee and Bailiffs are also allowed to park there. Once you have been to the pool, it will become apparent that there are several different ways to get there, this is just one of them. The Main Pool is nearest the road, The New Pool is behind the Main Pool as shown on the Map below.

Salters Lane Fishery Pool

Starting at Meir, take the A520 Weston Road to Weston Coyney traffic lights and go straight ahead towards Cellarhead. Go past Boulton Gate Saddlery on your left at Coalville, carry on the A520 towards Cellarhead past Winterfield lane which is first lane on your left, and take the next lane on your left (opposite stone Valley Rock) The lane is not signposted at this end but it is called Salters Lane. Follow this lane which veers to the right for approx 7/10 of a mile, past Shukers pool on the right, to the first lane on your right.
Please do not go into Salters Farm drive
Go down the lane to the car park, it is most important that the lane is kept clear at all times as it is the only way in and out of the farm below. The owner of the fishery has requested that the gate to the pool is kept closed at all times, so after entering, close the gate behind you.
Important the last person out, please make sure the gate is locked. Parking space is limited so please park sensibly



Hanchurch Village Farm Pool

From Meir, take the (A50) down to the (A500) roundabout. Turn left towards Hanford. Go over the flyover to the Hanchurch Roundabout, turn left and go up to the traffic lights. Go through the lights, straight ahead on the (A519) Eccleshall Road for about two hundred yards, and take the next turn on your right, which is a small bridge over the motorway. You are now in Hanchurch Lane, continue until you reach a crossroads, turn right into Peacock Lane, Go up the lane past the houses until you reach a pull in by a gateway on your right on the bend. A parking area has been provided just through this gate by the trees, you can also park in front of the gate by the hedges as long as the gates can be opened fully. Please park as tight in as you can so that the farmer can get by with his tractor. The pool is situated a little further up Peacock Lane, on your left. There is a gap in the hedge with two fence rails going across, the top rail slides to one side to allow easy access to the pool. Always slide the rail back to the closed position after use.

Blythe Pool in Tean

From Meir take the A50 past Blythe Bridge, through Draycott, and Totmonslow and just follow the road all the way down to the village of Tean. Do not cross the bridge, so with the bridge in front of you and the garage on your left, turn right into Riverside Road. With the river on your left carry on along the road, ignore the turning on the left with the cattle grid and go straight on up the tarmac lane until you reach the rough made part of the lane. Carry on and follow this rough made stretch all the way until you reach the bridge over the (A50). Go over the bridge and keep left, go over the cattle grid down to the next cattle grid, drive all the way down the field to the concrete pad. Turn left on the pad and go through the gate. There is a small pool on your left, go straight on (do not turn left). Go through the gate in front of you and to an old barn on your left, the car park is on your right. After parking go through the gate, the pool is fifty yards or so on your right. At certain times of the year the farmer will allow members to drive to the pool and unload, then return to the car park. If the gate is closed when you get there, go through but please close it behind you. Please use the pegs provided, do not fish in between pegs as these spaces will be planted out. The distance from the main road to the pool is approximately 1.5 miles, so do not think that you have missed it.


River Trent

Starting at Meir, go up Sandon Road to Meir Heath at the top, turn left past the Windmill Pub and go along the (B5066) Hilderstone Road until you reach the Tee Junction at Hilderstone, turn right. Follow this road (B5066) on through the crossroads and on to the junction at Sandon, turn left along the (A51) Lichfield - Rugeley road. Follow this road through Sandon to the traffic lights at Weston, carry straight on to Hixon keep going until you reach Ed Wheetman’s Garage which is on your left at Pasturefields. The River Trent is over the canal bridge on your right. Parking for this stretch of the River Trent is opposite the garage, and over the canal bridge. Park sensibly so any vehicles can get past. Unfortunately at the time of going to press, Mr Vernon the owner of the stretch of the Trent, has had to put locks on all of his gates because of his valuable livestock. This means that members will have to climb carefully over his gate to get to the river. The stretch is for two fields down and meanders on for several hundred metres. The stretch ends at Hoo Mill Bridge Lane, you can also access the river by coming down this lane which is further down the (A51) this is the next lane on the right after Ed Wheetman’s Garage. This means that you need to drive along the lane, over the canal bridge and down the one track lane between the fields to the river bridge at Hoo Mill. If you are challenged by the owner of the lock keepers cottage which is just over the canal bridge on your right, we have been advised that you refer him to Mr Vernon. As always please park considerately.

River Blythe at Leigh

From Meir, Go up Sandon Road (A520) to Meir Heath. Turn left along Hilderstone Road (B5066) go past the Windmill Pub to Hilderstone. Turn right at the T-junction towards Sandon and drive to the crossroads. Turn left along the (B5027) towards Uttoxeter, drive through Milwich and on to Field, which is approximately five and a half miles from the crossroads. You will come to a road bridge, this is the start of our stretch of the Blythe. Moor House Farm is on your right (signposted) drive along the raised drive towards the farm, veer right towards the bungalow this triangle between the farm and the bungalow is where you are allowed to park. The stretch is from the road bridge to the end of the corn field, the club will try to erect a sign at the end of our stretch. As always please park sensibly and out of the way as much as possible.

Caldon Canal - Froghall

Fantastic fishing along the tow path of Caldon Canal.
There are two stretches of canal with the first being from Froghall Basin up to the Froghall Tunnel. The second
stretch is from the other side of the Froghall Tunnel up to the first lock at the Flint Mill.
The water has a stock of large carp, large pike, bream, perch, tench, roach, chubb & trout

Lock 21 at Colwich, offering a peaceful and productive length of water for anglers of all levels.
